Brain-MuSE (Multi-Scale Exploration of the Brain) is a doctoral program led by the NeuroMarseille Institute of Aix-Marseille University (AMU). Designed to train 14 PhD fellows over 5 years, it addresses a critical need: preparing a new generation of highly-trained neuroscience researchers equipped with a truly multi-scale approach and translational culture, ready to integrate into today’s society, in the academic, clinical, or industrial sectors. The program revolves around three major axes of excellence of NeuroMarseille, in terms of research topics, methods, and models: (1) brain functions and dysfunctions across the lifespan, from early development to neurodegeneration; (2) advanced neuroimaging and neurocomputation, including neuro-AI; and (3) multiscale and multimodal biology, integrating in vitro, in vivo, in silico, and omics investigations across different species. This unique standpoint makes Brain-MuSE a solid, dynamic platform for interdisciplinary training with high global impact. Fellows will be selected through a rigorous, transparent, merit-based process for a PhD project chosen within a wide panel. They will receive dual supervision, undertake a clinical and/or private-sector internship, and benefit from tailored international mobility for secondment. CIVIS, a European-funded alliance, will be a key bridge to Brain-MuSE’s international dimension. Fellows will access a rich portfolio of training, from scientific expertise to transferable skills in communication, innovation, ethics, societal awareness, DEI, and open science. Brain-MuSE will strengthen AMU’s long-term human resources strategy and enhance its alignment with the European Charter & Code. By embedding MSCA’s 3I principles—interdisciplinarity, intersectorality, and international mobility—into all dimensions of training, Brain-MuSE will boost researcher employability, broaden career horizons, and contribute to a competitive, inclusive, and responsible European Research Area in neuroscience.
