MED-TRANSITION is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral programme designed to train a new generation of researchers and innovation leaders capable of addressing complex environmental challenges, using the Mediterranean as a living laboratory. At the crossroads of environmental, social, and technological sciences, it tackles key issues such as climate change adaptation, biodiversity loss, and socio-ecological resilience. The programme follows a bottom-up approach, inviting fellows to develop innovative research projects within the Mediterranean
environmental transition framework. It is implemented through a training-through-research model with two competitive international calls offering a total of nine 36-month postdoctoral positions. Recruitment follows a transparent, merit-based (OTM-R) process that is aligned with MSCA principles. Fellows will benefit from an integrated curriculum combining advanced research with personalised career development through Individual Career Development Plans (ICDP) and dual mentoring from both academic and non-academic partners.
MED-TRANSITION offers a "Triple-i" experience (International, Interdisciplinary, Intersectoral) supported by access to cutting-edge infrastructures, secondments, and dedicated training in Open Science. By aligning its activities with regional Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3), the programme fosters strong engagement with public authorities, environmental agencies, and socio-economic actors. This ensures the relevance and applicability of research outcomes through place-based solutions tailored to territorial needs.
By fostering science–policy–innovation interactions, MED-TRANSITION will enhance knowledge transfer and strengthen regional resilience. Through this comprehensive framework, the programme aims to boost the employability and career prospects of fellows, enabling them to become future leaders in the environmental transition across academic and non-academic sectors at European and international levels.
