E4HB will transform EBRAINS into Europe’s leading AI-powered digital research infrastructure for neuroscience, brain health, and brain-inspired technologies. Building on the achievements of the Human Brain Project and EBRAINS 2.0, E4HB will provide researchers, clinicians, and innovators with seamless access to FAIR multi-scale brain data, interoperable brain atlases, advanced simulation and modelling tools, digital brain and body twins, neuro-inspired AI services, and federated computing resources.

E4HB will establish a fully federated, AI-native infrastructure integrating national and European resources, including EuroHPC systems and AI Factories. Through close collaboration with National Nodes, scientific communities, healthcare stakeholders, and industry partners, the project will co-design and deploy new services and workflows for neuroscience, precision brain medicine, and cognitive technologies. A key innovation is the integration of domain-specific NeuroAI foundation models trained on EBRAINS’ unique multiscale datasets and atlases, enabling advanced analytics, simulation, knowledge discovery, and intuitive user interaction.

The project will contribute to a European Brain Data Space aligned with the EHDS and the EOSC, ensuring secure, interoperable, and FAIR access to brain-related data and services. E4HB will demonstrate scalability and robustness on exascale computing and AI infrastructures while supporting long-term sustainability and open science. By advancing digital twins and brain-inspired AI, E4HB will accelerate the translation of neuroscience discoveries into clinical applications, including diagnostics, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and neurosurgery, while fostering innovation in neurotechnology, robotics, and next-generation AI. Through international collaboration and targeted training programmes, E4HB will strengthen Europe’s leadership in neuroscience and brain health research and contribute to improved brain health outcomes for citizens.
