Undoubtedly there’s a correlation between organ and organism size and energy requirements. However, is energy the only parameter that determines organ and organism size? Funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, the SizeGrowth project aims to address this question by studying the dynamic process of growth in Drosophila melanogaster. Researchers will correlate organism growth with energy fluctuations and unveil the mechanisms of growth arrest during development. Results will also answer whether in the fruit fly larvae the cellular metabolic power decreases with increasing organism mass as stated by Kleiber’s law.
