Two new European infrastructure projects secured by the site’s teams!

The results of the European calls for proposals dedicated to research infrastructure under the Horizon Europe programme have been published: two projects led by teams from the site have been selected out of the 12 submitted, involving five research units, including one project coordinated by the CNRS.

With a success rate of 16.7 per cent, these results demonstrate the site’s teams’ ability to secure funding for ambitious European projects.

PROPHESCI: artificial intelligence for biological imaging

Project coordinated by the CNRS – MER support

  • Principal investigator: Virgile Viasnoff (IBDM)
  • Units involved: IBDM and the Fresnel Institute (CNRS), CRCM (Inserm)
  • Call: HORIZON-INFRA-2026-TECH-01-01
  • Duration: 48 months

Co-ordinated by the CNRS, PROPHESCI will develop an innovative platform combining label-free biological imaging and predictive artificial intelligence to monitor the development of stem cells and organoids in real time. The aim is, in particular, to improve their characterisation, predict their development and optimise culture protocols. The project will thus contribute to the development of new approaches in regenerative medicine, pharmaceutical research and bioproduction, whilst strengthening the European infrastructures Euro-BioImaging and OPENSCREEN.

EBRAINS for Healthy Brains: a European brain research infrastructure enhanced by AI

Project in partnership with Aix-Marseille University – Support from MER

  • Principal investigators: Viktor Jirsa (INS), Olivier David (INS) and Andrea Brovelli (INT)
  • Units involved: Institute of Systems Neuroscience (INS) and Timone Institute of Neuroscience (INT)
  • Call: HORIZON-INFRA-2026-SERV-01-01

The E4HB project aims to establish EBRAINS as a leading European digital infrastructure for neuroscience and brain health. It will enable the development of integrated services combining brain data, simulation and modelling tools, and specialised artificial intelligence (NeuroAI). These advances will facilitate the sharing and use of data and accelerate the transfer of scientific discoveries into clinical applications, particularly in the areas of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

The MER warmly congratulates the scientific teams and all the partners involved on these two successes, which demonstrate the site’s European dynamism and the quality of the collective work carried out in setting up these projects!
