Kick-Off Meeting for the European SCHADOC program: launch of an international doctoral projectAix-Marseille

Université officially launched the European doctoral program SCHADOC (Society and Culture, Climate Change and Environmental Challenges, Health, Artificial Intelligence: DOC), funded under the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-COFUND-01 call. This ambitious project, coordinated by Philippe Delaporte and Guillaume Rao, is one of the pillars of the university's strategy to transform higher education.

A structuring program to attract international talentSCHADOC

aims to attract talented international researchers at the start of their careers, thanks to particularly attractive scholarships. Doctoral students will benefit from a high-level scientific environment, enhancing their employability in both the academic and non-academic sectors.

40 doctoral students will be recruited in two successive calls for applications. Each will benefit from three years of doctoral training, within an interdisciplinary and international framework at Aix-Marseille University.

Anchored in the major challenges facing our

societyDoctoral projects will focus on four strategic areas of research, in line with the SUD region's smart specialization strategy and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  1. Societies and
  2. cultureClimate
  3. change
  4. and environmental challengesHealth
  5. and
  6. well-beingArtificial
  7. intelligence
  8. and its applicationsThese

cross-disciplinary themes will enable us to welcome projects from all scientific disciplines, encouraging interdisciplinary approaches, particularly within research institutes.

A strong coalition for intersectorality and international opennessThe

program relies on a network of 19 academic and non-academic partners involved in doctoral projects. Doctoral students will benefit from unique professional exposure, including:

  • International mobility, thanks in particular to the CIVIS network,
  • Collaboration with companies, hospitals, NGOs, museums and public bodies,
  • High-level supervision within recognized research teams,
  • Immersion in a variety of socio-economic environments.

This openness guarantees doctoral training that is resolutely focused on interdisciplinarity and intersectorality, essential to meeting contemporary scientific challenges.

An opportunity for researchers: become a

supervisorResearchers from AMU and partner universities can propose thesis projects and host a funded doctoral student. SCHADOC offers a unique opportunity to supervise or co-supervise ambitious, innovative and fully-funded projects within a structured, international framework.

A launch under the banner of collaboration and ambitionThe

Kick-Off Meeting provided an opportunity to present the project's objectives, discuss selection and integration procedures for future PhD students, and consolidate synergies between partners. This meeting marks the starting point of a program of excellence designed to train the next generation of researchers capable of tackling the complex challenges facing our societies.

SCHADOC is thus asserting itself as a major lever for strengthening the international influence of Aix-Marseille University, developing innovative interdisciplinary projects and supporting the training of young scientists in strategic fields.
